Joao Gomes sends apology to Tommy Doyle after Matheus Cunha’s Wolves message

Joao Gomes apologised to Tommy Doyle on social media following a training ground update from the Wolves players.

Confidence at the Black Country club will be at an all-time high this season following five league victories on the bounce, and Wolves now preparing for new contract talks with Vitor Pereira.

Under Gary O’Neil‘s leadership, relegation looked impossible to escape, but since the Portuguese figure’s appointment, the team are 17 points clear of the relegation zone and looking up the table instead.

Of course, there are still big clashes remaining against the likes of Man City and Brighton, but the overall positive atmosphere at Molineux Stadium appears to have skyrocketed in recent weeks.

Wolves training leaves Tommy Doyle disappointed

Sharing Cunha’s training photo after a team exercise, one which Gomes clearly lost, the midfielder wrote on Instagram stories (25 April): “Sorry yellow team, I take my responsibility. My bad, Tommy Doyle.”

Vitor Pereira preparing for tough summer transfer window at Molineux

Football Insider verdict

Despite a generally poor Premier League campaign, at least until Pereira’s arrival, there have still been two standout stars in the final third who have caught the attention of several clubs.

It is understood that Jorgen Strand Larsen is likely to remain in England following his loan spell, but Cunha could be ready to leave Wolves for Man United once the summer transfer window opens.

The duo combine for 26 goals and six assists in the Premier League this season, which is incredible given Wolves’ position in the league table, and without one of them, Pereira’s time at the club could be made far more difficult.

If Wolves are to steer away from relegation next season, the hierarchy will need to fully back the manager and trust that he can achieve the same results with a slightly different set of players.

Gomes and Yerson Mosquera have both put pen to paper on new deals at Molineux, which is a huge boost ahead of the summer transfer window, but it still leaves question marks over the team’s biggest stars.

While Pereira will still be focused on finishing the campaign on a high note, staff behind the scenes will already be preparing for the end-of-season chaos, with several players already linked with exits.

The summer could certainly make or break the manager’s time at Molineux, and given how quickly he has won the supporters over, nobody will be keen to see him leave anytime soon.
