Joe Gomez has revealed his pride at putting pen to paper on a new long-term deal with Liverpool, after a nightmare struggle with injury.

Liverpool revealed on their official website that the 19-year-old had signed a new contract with the Reds, which they described as a “long-term” deal.

Posting on his personal Instagram page, Gomez told fans that it was an “honour” to sign a new contract with “such a great club”.

The former Charlton Athletic ace had been out injured for more than a year, after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament last October while on international duty with England Under-21s.

Although expected to return in the summer, Gomez then suffered a further problem with his achilles tendon that set back his return until this month.

Gomez resumed his position in the Reds’ defence against Plymouth in the FA Cup at Anfield, before making his second appearance in the replay.

The teenager is now expected to feature against Wolves on Saturday, as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup against Paul Lambert’s side.

In other Liverpool news, Klopp has delivered this verdict on the future of Lazar Markovic.
