Joe Gomez set to ‘force through’ Liverpool exit as ‘outstanding’ claim emerges – pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Joe Gomez to force through a move away from Liverpool this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Gomez needs to leave Anfield if he wants to win back a place in the England squad.

The 24-year-old has managed just nine starts across all competitions this season, including only two in the Premier League.

Liverpool

He is now firmly Jurgen Klopp’s fourth-choice centre-back behind Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip.

Klopp told club media earlier this week (18 April) that all of his squad have been “absolutely outstanding”, even those on the fringes like Gomez.

But Agbonlahor has suggested the 11-time international may put his own personal ambitions above those of the club.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It’s now time for Gomez to leave.

“There’s been talk of Aston Villa trying to get him.

“But he needs to go. If he wants to go to the World Cup or anything like that, he’s not going to get the game time.

“Van Dijk never misses a game, Matip and Konate are in great form as well and they rotate.

“Gomez can’t get a kick. If I was him I’d be forcing through a move in the summer. “

Liverpool

Gomez is under contract at Anfield until the summer of 2024 and was a key player before he suffered a serious knee injury in November 2020.

The versatile defender has played 139 times across all competitions for the Reds and was a regular starter when they won the Premier League in the 2019-20 season.

In other news, Liverpool are in talks over a £50million-plus-a-year commercial deal.
