‘Joe Gomez’s contract to be terminated’ – Liverpool fans explode
Liverpool fans have expressed their upset after Arne Slot revealed Joe Gomez will miss most of the rest of the season.
Gomez has been sidelined since being forced off after just 11 minutes in Liverpool’s shock 1-0 defeat to Plymouth on 9 February in the FA Cup.
The versatile defender had already missed 10 matches before that fixture, and now his absence looks set to be even longer.
Slot revealed that Gomez has undergone surgery and is expected to be out “for a long time” raising fears that he may not return until the latter stages of the season. His injury is another setback for the side, who have already struggled with defensive issues this campaign.
Liverpool could move on from Joe Gomez after latest injury setback
Slot had only just got the English defender back to full fitness when injury struck again, leaving him short at the back during a crucial period of the season.
He has now missed 15 games this season and isn’t expected to return any time soon. Gomez was linked with a move to Aston Villa last summer, but no deal materialised. Villa instead brought in Axel Disasi on loan in January, making a future transfer for Gomez unlikely.

Liverpool were also interested in signing Mohamed Simakan, but their pursuit depended on Gomez’s departure. Since he remained at Anfield, no move for a new centre-half was made.
Despite ongoing injury struggles, Gomez has played a role this season, making 17 appearances across the backline. He has filled in at both full-back positions but primarily played in his favoured centre-back role.
Joe Gomez stats by season | 24/25 | 2023/24 | 2022/23 | 2021/22 | 2020/21 |
Appearances | 17 | 51 | 31 | 21 | 12 |

Liverpool fans run out of patience with Joe Gomez
Liverpool fans were frustrated when Gomez first suffered his latest injury, and that frustration has only grown following Slot’s latest update.
The 27-year-old has struggled with fitness issues throughout his career and has never seemed to fully recover from the anterior cruciate ligament tear he suffered in 2015.
Since 2020, he has missed a total of 81 games, forcing Liverpool to rely on Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate to maintain stability in defence.
Now, many supporters believe it’s time for the club to move on. One fan stated, “Enough is enough” while another insisted he “must be sold” in the summer.
