Joe Willock gets Allan Saint-Maximin, Alexander Isak message after Newcastle triumph
Joe Willock has received messages from star Newcastle United teammates past and present following the club’s Carabao Cup victory.
The Magpies ended a 70-year wait for major silverware on Sunday afternoon (16 March) when they beat Premier League leaders Liverpool 2-1 in that final at Wembley.
That success has seen Newcastle manager Eddie Howe tipped for a major opportunity as the next England manager after Thomas Tuchel.
In the meantime though, those connected with the club will be celebrating the end to that long wait for a trophy.

Joe Willock reflects on Carabao Cup triumph
The emotions of the final contrast starkly for either side, with Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk having been devastated as he took to social media to reflect on that loss.
In comparison, plenty of those associated with Newcastle have been keen to post their own jubilant celebrations online to mark such an occasion, and Willock was no different.
Having joined Newcastle from Arsenal permanently in the summer of 2021, this is the second major honour of the midfielder’s career after he helped the Gunners to the FA Cup in 2020.
Joe Willock Newcastle United record | Total (as per Transfermarkt) |
Appearances | 136 |
Goals | 18 |
Assists | 8 |
Yellow Cards | 5 |
Red Cards | 0 |
He has though been an unused substitute for Mikel Arteta’s side in that final, so coming off the bench for the Magpies in this final with ten minutes remaining will have been a significant moment for Willock.
Taking to Instagram to reflect on that, the 25-year-old posted a picture of himself celebrating on the pitch with the trophy, along with a caption that simply said: “Blessed”.
In response, Alexander Isak – who scored the winner in the final for Newcastle – commented on the post with the words “Bro bro”, while captain Bruno Guimaraes replied with a pair of loving eye emojis.
Another to reply was Allan Saint-Maximin, who left Newcastle in 2023 to join Al-Ahli, with the winger responding to Willock by commenting: “Mon bb” while also adding some loveheart hand emojis.
Newcastle United will aim big after major success
Football Insider Verdict
Those connected with the St James’ Park club will of course hope that this is the first of many trophies they lift in years to come.
With Newcastle expected to be active in the transfer market in the summer, they will be confident of putting a squad together that can deliver more success.
Indeed, having beaten Liverpool to win this trophy, they should also believe they can overcome any challenge put in front of them in the fight for silverware.
Considering the rewards that could bring, the likes of Willock will surely want to be part of that success for years to come.
But given new signings could be on the horizon, he and others may be under to pressure to perform well enough to show they are good enough to play for Newcastle as the club aims to continue its progression.
