Joel Matip: Top source reveals update on West Ham, Wolves & Fulham deals

Fulham have joined West Ham in the race to try and sign former Liverpool defender Joel Matip.

The 33-year-old is currently a free agent after his Liverpool contract expired at the end of last season.

Sources have told Football Insider that West Ham, Fulham, Bournemouth, and Wolves have all registered their interest in potential deals for the central defender.

Football Insider previously revealed that Julen Lopetegui’s side are also interested in Matip as they want to bolster their defensive options.

The experienced defender has made 150 appearances in the Premier League throughout his career with the Reds.

However, there are concerns over his fitness after Matip only made 14 appearances last season due to a cruciate ligament injury.

Fulham also faces competition from abroad for Joel Matip

It isn’t just teams in the Premier League looking to sign Matip as there is also interest around Europe.

Matip has reportedly held talks with clubs in France and Germany over a potential deal, but he is yet to sign a contract with any team.

Matip is a former Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Champions League winner throughout his time under Jurgen Klopp.

Fulham did sign Joachim Anderson during the summer transfer window for £30million from Crystal Palace.

However, Marco Silva is still interested in providing further cover in that area with Matip.
