Joelinton, Shearer react to Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes’ announcement
Bruno Guimaraes’ latest message on social media caught the attention of past and present Newcastle United stars.
The talented playmaker is one of Eddie Howe‘s most important stars, gaining plenty of attention ahead of the summer transfer window with five goals and eight assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.
Football Insider revealed in March that Newcastle were confident of keeping Guimaraes should they qualify for the Champions League, and that achievement has now been secured.
Arsenal had previously been linked with the 27-year-old, along with many other teams in Europe, and interest is likely to pick up again with just days left until the summer transfer window opens.
Despite supporters at St James’ Park fearing a potential exit, the player is far more focused on proceedings on the pitch as Brazil prepare to face Ecuador and Paraguay.
Bruno Guimaraes announces Brazil squad call-up
Taking to Instagram (26 May), Guimaraes celebrated his call-up to the Brazil national squad, writing: “Glory to God for this opportunity. As happy and fulfilled as if it were the first time.
“Let’s go, Brazil,” gaining likes from Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes, Man City‘s Savinho, West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta, and two fan favourites, Alan Shearer and Joelinton.
Eddie Howe to keep hold of Newcastle United stars this summer
Football Insider verdict
With the Magpies securing Champions League football ahead of next season, the chances of keeping many of their exit-linked stars have been significantly boosted, but not just in terms of ambition.
The bonus money from qualifying for the tournament should allow Newcastle to stand strong against any PSR concerns, with simple decisions left to make over Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, and Sandro Tonali.
Football Insider reported in March that Newcastle will not entertain offers for Tonali, even despite rumours of the Italian eyeing up a move back to Serie A.
Player | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Bruno Guimaraes | 154 | 22 | 24 |
Football Insider also understand that Newcastle are more confident of tying Isak down to a new deal with Champions League football, and both players are incredibly key to Howe’s future plans.
This is despite the Sweden international being linked with moves to Liverpool, Arsenal, or even out of the Premier League, but the player looks to have fallen in love with St James’ Park.
The Magpies’ previous attempt in the European competition ultimately ended in disappointment, being knocked out of the group stage, but Howe will be hoping to achieve more this time around.
