John Barnes slams Chelsea star – ‘He has done nothing and achieved nothing’

One Chelsea player has yet to convince John Barnes of his potential, as the Liverpool legend wants to see more from the star.

Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Wolves has the Blues in the top three of the Premier League table, just six points behind leaders Arsenal.

Enzo Maresca’s side will face the Gunners at Stamford Bridge in their second league game back after the international break, in a test of their title credentials.

Maresca’s key players will be crucial in that crunch clash, and Barnes believes one player needs to start stepping up.

Estevao yet to convince John Barnes

Estevao joined Chelsea from Palmeiras in the summer, and the Brazilian has quickly become an exciting prospect at the club.

However, as per video gamer, [12 November], Barnes is reserving judgement of the 18-year-old for now.

Estevao is a young player who has come into the team and is doing well at the moment,” Barnes said.

However, I remember Jadon Sancho doing the same thing and based off that I tend to leave opinions on young players alone and wait for them to grow. We can’t start putting pressure on him yet.

In reality, he’s had 10 good games… he’s done nothing! He’s got lots of potential, but we’ve seen that at Chelsea before and there’s lots of examples where it hasn’t worked out.

He’s not going to be a starter every week because they have so many players and all of a sudden, if he has a few below-par performances, we could be writing him off after another 10 games.

He has good potential, lots of ability and he can be a very good player, but at this moment in time he has done nothing and achieved nothing.

The reason why fans pay tickets is because they want to see players like Estevao and like Cole [Palmer] because people are happy when they are on the pitch.

Moises Caicedo contract latest

Chelsea are to offer Moises Caicedo a new contract to tie down the 24-year-old midfielder to the club for the long-term.

It is thought Caicedo could earn up to £225k in his new deal, in what would prove to be a considerable pay rise for the Ecuadorian.

Maresca is building a talented young squad at Stamford Bridge, with Caicedo a key player in midfield that the Italian cannot afford to lose.
