John Hartson slams senior Rangers man, claims he can’t be trusted
By Dominic Toner
John Hartson believes that Rangers manager Mark Warburton should not be trusted in the January transfer window.
The Gers are currently in a poor run of form and suffered a 2-0 away defeat against Hearts on Wednesday.
Warburton has come under pressure in recent weeks for the club’s performances after narrow victories against Partick and Dundee.
Ex-Celtic forward Hartson has criticised Warburton’s summer signings and feels the club’s board would be making a mistake by allowing him to continue freely in the next transfer window.
“I just wonder how long the Rangers board will give him. The January transfer window opens soon, but do they trust him with their money?” Hartson wrote in the Scottish Sun. “I don’t think they should, not the way he’s wasted it until now.
“You look at lads like Joe Garner, Joe Dodoo, Matt Crooks and Rob Kiernan and wonder what they’re doing at a massive club like Rangers. Niko Kranjcar was brought in but everyone could see his best days were behind him.”
Rangers’ summer acquisitions are yet to make a positive impact in the side, with defender Rob Kiernan the only one to settle into the starting XI.
Forward Joe Garner and Joe Dodoo have both been tested by Warburton and the manager is yet to decided on his first-choice striker.
Rangers are currently third-placed in the table and will be overtaken by Aberdeen if they win their games in hand.
The Gers host Aberdeen on Saturday in a crucial Scottish Premiership match and Warburton will be hopeful of three points.
They are already eight points adrift of league leaders Celtic, who also have three games in hand.
Rangers were expected to challenge at the top-end of the table following their promotion this season and are still adjusting to the top-flight.
In other Rangers news, a rival manager has made a bold claim ahead of the Aberdeen clash.
