John Lundstram: Rangers expert drops ‘huge’ verdict on new deal
Rangers could opt to let John Lundstram depart if they decide he does not fit into their long-term plans.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton urged the board to give the midfielder a new contract after his “huge” performances since Philippe Clement’s arrival at Ibrox.
The Englishman’s deal is set to expire at the end of the season and he admitted last month that he’d “love to” extend his stay with the Ibrox giants.
Many Rangers fans are very keen for the former Sheffield United ace to remain beyond his initial three-year deal after his influential outings in defensive midfield.
John Lundstram is yet to pen a new Rangers contract
Hutton suggested that the club may decide to replace Lundstram amid their continuing rebuild under Clement, but believes the 30-year-old still has plenty more to offer at Ibrox.
“I do expect Lundstram to stay,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s been huge since Clement has come in.
“He’s an everpresent in the side and he’s a real General in that midfield.
“I’d love to see him sign a new deal.
“But it will depend on where Rangers see their future – is it elsewhere or with him?
“He’s 30, but, from what I know, he’s still got a lot of football in him.

“But do they let him go at this moment in time, or do they keep him?
“I’d like to see them sign because he has a lot to give.”
