‘Why did he join a smaller club’ – Tottenham fans react as defender signs

By Matt Bullin

Tottenham fans are divided on Twitter as to whether selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City is a good piece of business or not.

The news was announced on the Tottenham’s official Twitter account on Friday afternoon, before Man City confirmed the news and revealed he would wear the number two shirt at the Etihad.

The 27-year-old right-back has joined the Citizens on a five-year deal, and the BBC have reported the final transfer fee could amount to £50million, with £45million paid up front and £5million paid through add ons.

Walker was dropped by Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino towards the end of the 2016-17 season, as Kieran Trippier was preferred.

However, England defender Walker was a regular for much of last season, and he still made 39 appearances in all competitions.

He arrived in North London in the summer of 2009 in a £5million switch from Sheffield United, and he went on to play 229 league and cup games for the club.

The White Hart Lane faithful were divided on Twitter after the news broke that Walker had signed for City, some fans wished him well, while other supporters believed it was a good decision to sell him.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Walker has been capped by England on 27 occasions, and he played 45 minutes in the 3-2 friendly defeat to France last month.
