Jon McLaughlin to be axed from Rangers XI after ‘huge’ development – Hutton
Alan Hutton has claimed Jon McLaughlin could be out of the Rangers starting XI for their game against Ajax on Wednesday (7 September).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said McLaughlin “could have done better” against Celtic.
As shown on Sky Sports (3 September), the 34-year-old tried to play a pass to Steven Davies from inside his box, but it was intercepted by David Turnbull who found the back of the net.
The shot stopper has started every league and Champions League game for Rangers so far this season.
He was replaced by Ibrox stalwart Allan McGregor for their Premier Sports Cup tie against League One side Queen of the South (30 August).
Hutton suggested that Giovanni van Bronckhorst could choose McGregor for their Champions League group stage opener.
“We go back to the first game of the season, he made his decision that Jon McLaughlin was going to be number one,” he told Football Insider.
“So he was never going to change his mind for an Old Firm game. He was always going to stick to what he has been doing.

“There’s obviously going to be questions being asked since McLaughlin came in. Yes he’s had a couple of mistakes but over the piece he’s done well. Could he have done better? Of course he could have there’s no getting away from that fact.
“There will be questions getting asked. The next game is obviously huge, against Ajax in the Champions League. Whether he sticks with Jon or goes back to Allan, I think everybody is kind of waiting to find the answer out.“
