Jordan Henderson facing spell on sidelines after Liverpool latest – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Jordan Henderson is facing a spell on the sidelines at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Henderson will no longer play as much as he is used to.

According to the Athletic, as relayed by Anfield Watch (14 December), Jurgen Klopp is set to manage the 32-year-old’s game time when the season resumes.

The Reds have welcomed back Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from injury in recent weeks and could use to opportunity to rest the captain.

Henderson has made 21 appearances for Liverpool this season.

The England international’s current Anfield contract runs until 2025.

When asked if managing the midfielder’s minutes is necessary, McAvennie told Football Insider:Of course it is.

He will know himself. He has been a great servant and was a great acquisition for the club. He has been there, seen it and done it. He has got his medals.

When they are two up in a game they will bring him in to tighten things up. He will get time but I think they have got to bring in new players.

I think it is a good thing to have him around the club. I would still give him his game time but he will not get a run of six games. He will be coming on to manage games when they are winning.

But I think it is a good thing to have him around. I do not think he would want to leave Liverpool.
