Jordan Henderson replacement identified after Liverpool source’s bust-up reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Virgil van Dijk will succeed Jordan Henderson as Liverpool captain.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender insisted Henderson is not leaving any time soon but doesn’t see any midfielders in the current squad that could step into his shoes when he quits.
On 10 April, this site revealed that the 32-year-old has been deliberately provoking his teammates to raise them to new levels.
The long-standing captain has called out teammates Alisson Becker and Trent Alexander-Arnold in recent games in an attempt to raise the standards of his fellow players.
The captain still has just over two years left on his deal at Anfield and will continue to be an important leader moving forward.
When asked if there is anyone in the current squad that has the capabilities to take over from Henderson when he does leave, Hutton told Football Insider: “I do not think he will leave any time soon.
“I think he will continue to be the captain for a number of years. After that it probably falls back on to Van Dijk, I think he would then be the captain.

“At this moment in time do I see another midfielder that is really going to step up, that is at a good age and can drive the team forward for the next four, five, six years? Possibly not.
“But I think that is what Jurgen Klopp will be looking to bring in.“
