Jorgen Strand Larsen ‘interested’ in quitting Wolves in instant Rob Edwards blow

Jorgen Strand Larsen was heavily linked with a move away from Wolves during the summer transfer window but has since struggled to perform.

Wolves lost 3-0 to Chelsea last time out, under the management of interim boss James Collins following their decision to sack Vitor Pereira and appoint Rob Edwards.

The Norway international started the game up front, but once again struggled to make an impact, and has scored just one goal in nine league appearances this season.

Meanwhile, Wolves are concerned about Strand Larsen’s injury, as the striker has been playing through an achilles issue and has hardly trained between games.

However, that is not seen as the full reason for his struggles, with ongoing speculation about his long-term future at Molineux playing a role in his form.

Jorgen Strand Larsen plotting Wolves transfer

Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that Strand Larsen has had his head turned by the interest during the summer, causing “major” concerns for Wolves.

Now, as a result of their dismal league performance so far this season, the striker is believed to be prepared to leave should they prove unable to turn things around.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the striker could be one of multiple Wolves stars bound for the exit door.

When you’re in a relegation battle, or sorts of issues can pop up,” he told Football Insider.

“One problem you sometimes get in teams who are going down, is some of the better players start thinking: ‘It’s okay, if we get relegated, I’ll get a move’.

“I don’t know for certain that’s the case with Strand Larsen, or whether he’s just going through a rocky patch. Probably a bit of both, in all honesty.

“As with any team facing relegation, there’s going to be speculation about their best players.

“Whether that’s Strand Larsen or somebody else, clubs will be interested, and of course he’ll want to be playing at the highest level possible.

“But there’s a thin line, because he needs to prove himself to these clubs by doing well for Wolves.

“In either case, if there are clubs willing to come in for him, I’m sure it’s something he will be interested in especially later in the season if it looks like they’re in trouble.

“It’s a difficult situation for them but one they’re going to have to deal with.”

After 11 Premier League games, Wolves remain rock bottom of the table and are still without a win, with eight points separating them from safety.

Wolves fear mass exodus after Joao Gomes update

Brown told Football Insider that Wolves are fearful of losing their star players, with Strand Larsen joining Joao Gomes on the list of potential departures.

Gomes signed a new contract at Wolves in April to extend his stay until 2030 and deter growing interest after his impressive displays last season.

However, as a result of the ongoing turmoil at Molineux, a number of “top clubs” in the Premier League and abroad have sent scouts to keep tabs on his performances.

Should Edwards prove unable to turn around their fortunes, and Wolves suffer relegation from the Premier League, they may be powerless to keep their best players.

Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed in January that Liverpool and Man United were keeping tabs on Gomes, before he signed a new deal at Wolves.
