Jorginho ready to clear out his locker and quit Arsenal

Jorginho is set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the midfielder is ready to “move on” and depart the Emirates as a free agent.

There are currently no ongoing contract talks between the club and the 33-year-old, with Arsenal now planning for life without him ahead of next season.

The Gunners may have already identified a potential successor, with former Man United chief scout Mick Brown telling Football Insider that Arsenal are keen to sign Martin Zubimendi as part of their summer recruitment plans.

Jorginho has played a limited role in the Arsenal squad this season, with Thomas Partey reclaiming a more regular spot in the starting line-up.

With his departure now imminent, Arsenal are closing in on a move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi but they face competition from Real Madrid, who are also admirers of the Spanish international.

The 33-year-old has made 24 appearances this season, starting just nine Premier League matches. He has recently been sidelined with a chest injury and missed Arsenal’s Champions League defeat to PSG, with doubts remaining over whether he will feature again this campaign.

Jorginho played an important role for the club last season, forming a key midfield partnership with Declan Rice while Thomas Partey was sidelined through injury. Despite his contributions, the team once again fell short in the Premier League title race.

Another midfielder whose contract is set to expire this summer is Partey, but it appears Arsenal are reconsidering their initial plan to let him go.

Arsenal have opened talks over a possible contract extension for Partey, despite earlier expectations that the Ghana international would leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Partey’s absence due to suspension against PSG was felt, with Arsenal’s midfield struggling to contain Joao Neves, Vitinha, and Fabian Ruiz during the defeat.

However, they may face competition for his signature, with clubs abroad showing interest in a free transfer.

The 31-year-old has been pivotal for Mikel Arteta’s side, making 47 appearances this term. The Gunners now appear keen to avoid losing both of their most experienced midfielders in the same window.
