Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund react to Mason Mount as Man United exits loom

Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund are among those that have reacted to a new update from Mason Mount amid rumours linking them all with a Man United exit this summer.

Mount’s tough two years at Old Trafford have been compounded by constant injury issues that have restricted him to just 30 league appearances for the club so far.

The 26-year-old played a key role in Chelsea’s 2021 Champions League triumph, but Man United fans are yet to see such good form since his £55m [BBC] move from the Blues in 2023.

Former Red Devils chief scout, Mick Brown, revealed to Football Insider in June that United are prepared to accept offers for Mount this summer as Ruben Amorim has decided that he is not of the required standard for his squad.

The midfielder has at least one suitor for his services, with Brown also telling Football Insider last month that Aston Villa are plotting a move for Mount as Unai Emery is an admirer of his talents.

Mount shares new update after Man United pre-season test

Mount remains in Amorim’s plans right now, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho in United’s ‘bomb squad’ ahead of the new season.

The 26-year-old played the second-half of the Red Devils’ first pre-season clash against rivals Leeds United on Saturday (19 July), which ended 0-0 in Sweden, and he took to Instagram following the game to share a number of pictures of him in action at the Strawberry Arena.

Mount’s message was reacted to with likes from United teammates Zirkzee and Hojlund, who have each also been linked with a move away this summer, while Matthijs de Ligt, Manu Ugarte, Ben Chilwell, Fikayo Tomori and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also followed suit.

Hojlund and Zirkzee to join Mount in leaving Man United

Football Insider verdict

The size of the task at hand for United boss Amorim is pretty unfathomable right now, despite some decent signings being made, with a number of his players uncertain of what the future holds and less than a month until the new campaign starts.

Mount could leave United, but an exit for him seems less likely than one for teammate Hojlund at this current moment in time, especially with Matheus Cunha already through the door and with the Red Devils closing in on a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo.

The Danish striker was unable to make much of a positive impact in his second season in Manchester, with just four goals scored in 34 league appearances after netting 10 in 30 league games in his debut campaign.

Hojlund’s Man United career stats

Hojlund is unlikely to still be at Old Trafford beyond this summer, as recently revealed to Football Insider by former chief scout Brown, and his strike partner could also leave after Football Insider recently revealed that Inter Milan are lining up a swoop for Zirkzee.

Mount could well leave in the next few weeks or months, but United do have a lot on their plate right now in terms of players that need to depart, and so his exit is probably not as high in their list of priorities compared to that of Hojlund and Zirkzee.
