Joshua Zirkzee sends ‘madness’ message to Man United teammate
Man United forward Joshua Zirkzee has heaped praise on teammate Amad Diallo after his remarkable performance in their 3-1 win over Southampton on Thursday (January 16).
Zirkzee, 23, replaced fellow out-of-form striker Rasmus Hojlund in the 53rd minute with his side 1-0 down to bottom-placed Southampton.
The visitors opened the scoring just before half-time thanks to an own goal from midfielder Manuel Ugarte, United’s tenth goal conceded from a corner this season.
Ivan Juric looked set for his first win since replacing Russell Martin in December until Diallo, 22, scored the first of his three goals in the 82nd minute.
The winger then gave his side the lead eight minutes later, latching on to Christian Eriksen’s lofted pass and beating Aaron Ramsdale on the volley.
He scored his third in added time, capitalising on a shocking attempt to play out from the back by Southampton.
Amad Diallo shines for Man United as Joshua Zirkzee continues to struggle
Diallo has been arguably United’s best player so far this season, starting 19 of his 30 games across all competitions, scoring nine goals, and providing seven assists in his 1829 minutes of action.
Zirkzee, on the other hand, has struggled since making the move to Old Trafford in the summer, starting 11 of his 30 games across all competitions, scoring just four goals, and providing two assists in his 1142 minutes on the field.
Still, clearly delighted for his teammate, Zirkzee took to Instagram to share an image of the two celebrating one of Diallo’s goals, captioning the post: “Amadness.”

United have four games remaining in January alone, including a trip to Rangers in the Europa League, one of Diallo’s former loan clubs.
Amorim’s attention will doubtless be on their next Premier League game on Sunday (January 19), as they seek to keep the good times rolling for their trip to Brighton.
