Josip Brekalo: Major update on potential Rangers deal

Rangers move for Fiorentina winger Josip Brekalo will only happen if they’re able to sell players, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Rangers remain interested in bringing the 26-year-old winger to Glasgow but a move is unlikely due to financial constraints.

The Glasgow club’s failure to secure Champions League group-stage football has had a major impact on their capabilities this transfer window but are still looking to bolster their squad.

Football Insider revealed (August 30) that Rangers are keen on bringing Sassuolo midfielder Nedim Bajrami to Ibrox as a replacement for Todd Cantwell.

Equally as capable of playing on the right wing as he is on the left, the Croatian spent the back end of last season on loan in his home country with Hajduk Split.

Brekalo scored twice and provided eight assists in just 16 appearances for the Croatian club as they finished third in the Croatian Football League.

The Croatia international is now looking for a way out of Fiorentina having failed to make the squad in either of the club’s opening two Serie A games.

Rangers have been in the market for another winger all summer but now look set to keep previously transfer-listed star Rabbi Matondo.

Football Insider revealed (August 30) that Rangers now want to keep winger Rabbi Matondo beyond the transfer window.
