Jota could be out for Celtic until next year in ‘massive blow’ after injury update – expert

Noel Whelan has suggested Celtic could be without Jota until the new year after suffering a muscle injury against Hearts in midweek.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old could miss “four to six weeks” of action after limping off with a hamstring injury on Thursday (2 December).

As quoted by the Glasgow Times (3 December), Ange Postecoglou revealed the winger was not “too downbeat” and is hopeful of positive news.

However, he admitted he would still like to give the Benfica loanee a “break”.

Whelan claimed the injury is a “massive blow” with the Hoops approaching the busy festive period.

“It’ll be a massive worry because he’s been one of the shining lights for Celtic,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“He’s been coming up with goals, assists, great performances – he’s been one of the stars of this new era under Postecoglou.

“It’ll be a massive blow, especially as they come up to this crucial time in the season over Christmas.

“He’s been chipping in everywhere and is a really influential player in that Celtic side.

“Hamstring injuries are usually anywhere between 4-6 weeks out depending on how bad the tear is. They’ll have to be mightily careful with him.”
