Journalist: Future of Leeds senior figure still in huge doubt as potential game changer emerges
The future of Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom is still in huge doubt with the board conducting a review of his performance and a potential game changing element emerging, according to a journalist.
Alan Nixon, who writes for the Sun, claims on his personal Twitter account that the top brass at Elland Road are still uncertain whether to give the former Barnsley boss the summer transfer window after guiding the club to a disappointing 13th placed finish, having arrived to replace Thomas Christiansen back in February.
It is said that while a review is ongoing, there is another man out there that the club have wanted in the past and that if he was available and the Whites could snap him up, then Heckingbottom’s time in the dugout could come to a premature end.
Football Insider verdict
After the shambles of a season that Leeds endured it is no surprise to hear that the manager’s position is under threat, even if he did arrive in February. He did very little to change the approach of the team and that reflected in both their performances and results as they limped their way home to mid-table mediocrity – a far cry from the play off spot they were hoping for at the start of the season. Still, this will be his first transfer window in charge and it remains to be seen if he will be given the chance to conduct the changes that he wants to see going forward. It sounds as if the availability of this mysterious other coach could be the deciding factor in whether he stays or goes, but after a season of disappointment, they cannot be left waiting around too long. The summer transfer window is shorter than before and the World Cup will not help matters for any clubs. If they want their new man in, he needs to be in now – otherwise Heckingbottom deserves the chance to show what he has got.
