Journalist shares when Elneny will return to Arsenal team

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny could be set to return to the first-team for their upcoming Premier League clash with Hull on Saturday, according to a reliable journalist.

The Evening Standard’s chief football correspondent James Olley revealed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that the 24-year-old is due back in training with Arsenal within the next 48 hours.

The Egypt international has been absent at the Africa Cup of Nations since the start of January, and returns to his club duties with a minor calf injury sustained during the international campaign.

However, Olley does not expect the injury to cause much of a problem, and revealed he will be assessed before any decision is made on his selection to face Hull.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will no doubt welcome the return of Elneny to his ranks, after seeing his midfield options severely depleted in his absence.

Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey are both sidelined with injury, while Granit Xhaka has been serving a four-match suspension.

The Switzerland midfielder still has one game left to serve on his ban, and will therefore be unavailable to face Hull.

Meanwhile, Wenger’s midfield of Francis Coquelin and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was ripped to shreds in the defeat to Chelsea at the weekend.

Coquelin was given the runaround by Eden Hazard, while Oxlade-Chamberlain will need more time to adjust to a central-midfield role.

Elneny has so far made 19 appearances for Arsenal this season, and will have an important role to play in the coming weeks as the Gunners look to keep their hopes of silverware alive.
