A new mural has been unveiled off Anfield Road celebrating the Liverpool captain before he lifts the title at Anfield on 25 May.

The artwork shows Van Dijk wearing the 2024/25 champions shirt in the home kit, complete with the golden Premier League badge and his captain’s armband, commemorating his second league title with the Reds.

The Dutchman shared a video and photos of his visit to the mural on Instagram, writing: “So so honoured! A proud moment. Thank you everyone.”

His post received a warm reaction, with teammates such as Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, and even Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham liking the post.

Former Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson, who lifted the title in 2019/20, also reacted with a heart and raised hands emoji in the comments.

After both Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk signed new deals at Liverpool, there had been some concerns over financial flexibility in the transfer market. But that doesn’t appear to be an issue for Slot’s side this summer.

Football Insider revealed that Liverpool are making progress towards a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, fending off strong interest from both Man City and Bayern Munich.

The Reds have already met with Wirtz and his family in a bid to secure what would be a club-record signing.

This follows news that Man City have stepped away from the race for Wirtz, potentially clearing the way for Liverpool to seal the high-profile move.
