Junior Firpo: Leeds United flop tipped to join ‘Getafe’ this summer – expert

Junior Firpo could be sold by Leeds United after failing to impress during his first season at the club.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after another poor outing from the Spaniard.

Leeds fell to a 3-0 loss against Aston Villa on Thursday (10 March), their sixth straight defeat.

Major questions were asked of the defence as the Whites struggled to deal with every Villa attack.

Firpo‘s performance was singled out as particularly poor with The Athletic’s Phil Hay pointing out he was “really toiling” during the game.

McAvennie has not been impressed with the left-back and claims he could be sold to a Spanish club such as Getafe in the summer.

“He’s from Spain so maybe he was never quite up to playing in the Premier League,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I imagine he will go back there, he hasn’t done very well at all.

“He’s had a result in coming to Leeds, he has got his name out there. But he hasn’t performed.

“You have to hit the ground running over here. He will go, he’ll get a team over in Spain.

“I’m thinking the likes of Getafe, someone like that, one of the smaller teams.

“Leeds can get a bit of money back for him and they can move on.

“He can’t cut it over here.”

Firpo, 25, went off injured towards the end of the game.

As per the BBC’s Adam Pope, Jesse Marsch expects the defender to be out for “a while”.
