Jurgen Klopp: Pundit calls for radical rule change after Liverpool and Rangers development
Paul Robinson has called for extra time to be scrapped after “tiredness and fatigue” in the FA Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one also pointed to the Europa League final between Rangers and Eintracht Frankfurt when making his point.
Several players went down injured in extra time of Liverpool‘s penalty shootout victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final (14 May).
As quoted by The Telegraph (16 May), Klopp complained about the fact his team had to play a Premier League game against Southampton 72 hours after extra time and penalties.
The Europa League final was also decided on penalties after Rangers and Eintracht Frankfurt could not be separated in normal or extra time.
Robinson suggested fans watch extra time in the hope that the game goes to penalties.
“From a fans point of view extra time seems to be a bit of an anti-climax.” he told Football Insider.
“It is an extra 30 minutes but the game just slowly gets worse. Nine times out of 10 games are won in extra time because of an error. The players are tired so make a mistake that ends up leading to a goal.
“You could see the tiredness and fatigue in the FA Cup and Europa League finals.

“I’m not a huge advocate of extra time. I watch extra time hoping it goes to penalties so that says it all.
“You don’t get the quality of football in extra time. I think there is a case to change it.”
