Jurgen Klopp should land ‘five-game ban’ after ‘shocking’ Liverpool development – Agbonlahor
Gabby Agbonlahor has urged the FA to “throw the book at” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp by handing him a “five-game ban” for his outburst against the officials last week (30 April).
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed managers will “tone down” their touchline behaviour if the 55-year-old is adequately punished.
Klopp has been charged by the FA with improper conduct after suggesting referee Paul Tierney was “against” Liverpool in the aftermath of their 4-3 win over Tottenham (30 April).
The German hit out at Tierney after being shown a yellow card for aggressively celebrating Diogo Jota’s injury-time winner in the face of fourth official John Brooks.
The Reds boss served a one-match touchline ban earlier this season after being sent off for a similar altercation with a linesman in the win over Man City back in October 2022.
Other Premier League managers like Marco Silva and Roberto De Zerbi have also served touchline bans this season after clashing with officials.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I’d ban him for five games.
“Every time he reoffends after that, I’d double it.
“The incident with the fourth official was what stood out to me, not what he said after the game.
“He was so aggressive with how he came towards the fourth official. I thought it was shocking.
“Managers will keep doing it if you don’t throw the book at them.
“Mitrovic got a lengthy ban for what he did – and he won’t do it again.

“If you give Klopp a ban, he’d be like a puppy on the sideline – if he’s punished properly.
“Put him in the stands for five games. If you throw the book at Klopp, the other managers will tone it down.”
