Jurgen Klopp to land unusual punishment after Liverpool source’s ban reveal – pundit

Frank McAvennie has suggested an unusual punishment for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after his FA charge.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said bosses should be prevented from working with their players for a week, rather than simply sending them to the stands for a match.

As shown on Sky Sports (30 April), the Reds boss celebrated Diogo Jota’s injury time goal in front of fourth official John Brooks in the Reds’ 4-3 win over Tottenham and injured himself in the process.

Sources told this site (2 May) that Klopp is set to land an extended touchline ban for his post-match comments regarding referee Paul Tierney after the game.

On the same day the FA confirmed that the German has been charged for his comments after the game.

But McAvennie suggested a ban is not enough for managers who break the rules.

If a manager is out of order sending him to the stand is not causing any problems,” he told Football Insider.

Liverpool

What you should do is say that they can’t coach the players for a week. You can’t have anything to do with the players for a week, that will keep their mouth shut.

Sending them to the stand for a week won’t do anything. They are still training the boys so it is not a punishment. A punishment is that you can’t coach your players for a week. Maybe that will stop it.
