Kalvin Phillips: Leeds United ace tipped to snub West Ham for ‘proper club’ after bid update – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips could snub a possible move to West Ham to join a “proper top-four club” this summer.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 26-year-old would have his sights set higher than the Irons.

As reported by the Guardian on Saturday (29 January), West Ham had a £50million bid rejected by Leeds for Phillips during the winter window.

The Hammers are reportedly considering launching another move this summer after the transfer market closed on Monday.

However, Hutton suggested Phillips would only leave Leeds for a genuine title contender.

“Season on season, we can see the development and the player that he’s growing into,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“I mean, he’s one of the best defensive midfielders in the league at this moment in time, especially for his age.

“I think, and this is no disrespect to West Ham, he will have bigger ambitions to go to a proper top-four club. A club that’s challenging for trophies and league titles.

“He might not be there at this moment in time, but, in the summer, definitely in the next seasons, he’ll be there.

“I think his ambition would be greater than a £50million bid from West Ham in the January transfer window.”
