Kalvin Phillips ‘should be concerned’ after latest Man City development – Agbonlahor
Kalvin Phillips will be concerned about his lack of game time at Man City ahead of the World Cup, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Phillips has to accept his role as a bit-part player under Pep Guardiola.
The 26-year-old made his debut for his new club as a 90th-minute substitute in the 2-0 win over West Ham on Sunday (7 August).
The England international was an unused substitute in the 3-1 loss to Liverpool in the Community Shield at King Power Stadium the previous weekend (30 July).
“He should definitely be concerned,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Players want to play every game and he’s not going to play every game for Man City.
“Rodri has been there and done it and is going to play the majority of Champions League and Premier League games.
“Yes Pep will rotate and Kalvin Phillips will get game time but he’s not going to get nowhere near as much as he would get if he had gone to Man United or Chelsea.
“It’s very difficult because he’s not going to get the game time but you can’t turn down that move.
“He’s going to have to get used to sitting on that bench, to be honest.”

Phillips moved to the Etihad Stadium from his boyhood club Leeds United in the summer for a £45million fee.
He is under contract at his new club until the summer of 2028 after putting pen to paper on a six-year deal.
