Kane: Tottenham must do this to silence the doubters
By Aramide Oladipo
Tottenham striker Harry Kane believes that the club need to win trophies this season in order to silence the doubters.
The North London club have not managed to pick up a piece of silverware since winning the 2008 League Cup after beating Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley Stadium with Juande Ramos in charge.
Although Spurs have become genuine title contenders under Mauricio Pochettino, they still finished 11 points behind 2016 Premier League champions Leicester City and eight points adrift of last season’s winners Chelsea.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, talisman Kane feels that the side must win something in order to back up their great performances of the last couple of years.
“People will always have this little doubt about us until we start winning things,” he said.
“Performances and results like we produced against Liverpool was something we maybe didn’t do as well at last year, so if we can continue that this year it will be good.
“With United losing at Huddersfield on Saturday, it gave us a chance to catch them up and next week is going to be a massive game. We’re looking forward to it.”
The England international was the star man for Spurs on the weekend, scoring twice and providing a wonderful assist for Son Heung-Min as Pochettino’s men strolled to a 4-1 win over Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.
The 24-year-old is currently the leading Premier League goalscorer, with eight strikes to his name.
The striker has been in fantastic form this season, notching up a total of 11 goals in all competitions and providing two assists in all competitions.
Kane might be given the chance to add to his impressive tally when Spurs welcome local rivals West Ham United to the national stadium on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup.
