Karren Brady aims fresh dig at attacker as West Ham row escalates

By Harry Sykes

Karren Brady has accused Dimitri Payet of being extremely unprofessional in a fresh attack on the former West Ham playmaker.

Payet gave an interview in France earlier this week in which he was critical of the team’s defensive style of play earlier in the season as they struggled to carve out results.

The France international claimed it contributed to his decision to quit in the January window, which apparently contradicted his reasoning to the West Ham board that his family was homesick.

West Ham vice-chairman Brady has been highly critical of Payet in her weekly newspaper column and delivered a fresh attack on the 29-year-old as the public row between player and club escalated.

“Payet says he got bored when West Ham went through a bad patch,” said Brady in her Sun column. “Some excuse to go on strike that is. His reason at the time was his family were unhappy in England.

“Payet did well with us and we did well by him. He regained his international spot and, while we had defensive problems at the start of the season (a few pop up today at Bournemouth, too), a decent pro doesn’t withdraw his labour.

“He, like us, should just move on.”

Payet was bought by West Ham from Marseille in the summer of 2015 for £11million and had an outstanding debut season in which he came second  in the PFA player of the year awards behind only Riyad Mahrez.

The Frenchman was considerably less effective in the opening half of this campaign before telling West Ham in late December that he wanted to quit the club in the winter window.

Payet went on strike to push through a transfer and was eventually sold back to Marseille for £25million towards the end of January.

In other West Ham transfer news, they are set to battle over a defensive wonderkid.
