Kasper Schmeichel sends three-word message to Celtic fans after stunning twist

Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has taken to social media to wish fans a “Happy Monday” after their Scottish League Cup final win over Rangers on Sunday (December 15).

The 38-year-old played a key role in Celtic’s thrilling penalty shoot-out win over their arch-rivals to secure their first piece of silverware this season.

In a match of extraordinary drama, Rangers winger Nedim Bajrami opened the scoring after 36 minutes before Greg Taylor equalised just after half-time.

Daizen Maeda then put Brendan Rodgers’ side ahead but they were then pegged back by Mohamed Diomande to make it 2-2.

Celtic thought they’d won it after Nicolas Kuhn’s 87th-minute strike but Rangers striker Danilo had other ideas, scoring just one minute later.

Extra time came and went at Hampden Park, forcing the two arch-rivals to settle their differences with penalties.

Celtic emerged victorious after Schmeichel saved Rangers left-back Ridvan Yilmaz’s fourth penalty, leaving Maeda to seal the win with a decisive spot-kick, securing a 5-4 triumph in the shootout.
