Keith Andrews has ‘proved me wrong’ after Brentford deal agreed

Brentford are right to reward manager Keith Andrews with a new contract at the club amid their fine Premier League season.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Andrews signed a new deal with Brentford to keep him at the club until 2032.

The Bees are seventh in the Premier League table and competing for European football in Andrews’ first ever managerial job in the top flight.

Despite uncertainty over his appointment at the start of the season, Brentford have been successful under Andrews so far, with the club also still in the FA Cup.

Keith Wyness ‘wrong’ over Keith Andrews

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – is “pleased” for Andrews after doubting whether he could be a Premier League manager at the start of the season.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes Brentford are on an upward trajectory with “new investment” coming in.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, I’m still finishing my very large portion of humble pie, and I’m pleased to say that Keith Andrews has made me eat it all and I’ve got no problem with saying I was wrong.

“He has proven me wrong and Brentford have played some very good football. He’s conducted himself very well and he’s got a new contract. So great for Keith Andrews, and he’s learning and he’s maturing, and good for him.

“So I’m pleased, and I’m happy for Brentford. They’re a very well run club. They’ve got some new investment and some new investors have just come in as well.”

Igor Thiago stance revealed

Sources have told Football Insider that Igor Thiago is happy at Brentford, despite a departure from the club having not been ruled out.

The 24-year-old signed a new long-term deal to keep him in west London until 2031, with the club having the option to extend it by an extra year.

Thiago’s 18 Premier League goals have proved pivotal to Brentford’s successful campaign, and the Brazilian has been linked with moves elsewhere in the Premier League.
