Keith Wyness calls for ‘urgent’ Aston Villa intervention after PSR bombshell
Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed his old side and other Premier League clubs need an “urgent summit” to abolish Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted fans are “being hit by these ridiculous rules” after two bombshell price increases.
Aston Villa have faced backlash from fans for charging up to £97 for Champions League fixtures and attempting to double disabled parking prices.
Parking prices were restored to normal levels after strong fan reaction prompted a U-turn from the club.
Business president Chris Heck has recently claimed that “achieving our sporting ambitions while complying with financial stability regulations requires difficult decisions”.
Aston Villa and Premier League clubs should rebel against PSR, says Wyness
Aston Villa had a close brush with the rules, which carry a potential points deduction as a sanction, and were forced to sell Douglas Luiz to Juventus in June as a result.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “These price increases are another unintended consequence of PSR, which we have been railing against.
“Here we are again with the fans being hit by these ridiculous rules.

“I’d like to see a urgent summit on PSR from all clubs, including Aston Villa.
“Include experts, the likes of Kieran Maguire, lawyers – let’s have a summit and see if we can’t find a way for the Premier League to move forward.”
