Keith Wyness can’t believe Newcastle selling Bruno Guimaraes soon

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Newcastle United star man Bruno Guimaraes is set to remain at the club this summer.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted “£100million deals are going to be very rare and unusual” in the upcoming summer window.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (28 May) that Newcastle missing out on European football is unlikely to have a bearing on Guimaraes’ future.

He is available – until 30 June – via a £100million release clause in his contract at St James’ Park.

The clause was inserted when Guimaraes penned a new contract at Newcastle in October 2023, keeping him at the club until June 2028.

Clubs can’t afford £100m clause for Newcastle star Guimaraes this summer, says Wyness

He played 50 times across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign, notching seven goals and ten assists.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “At the moment, my feeling is that Guimaraes will likely stay.

“It’s very much a buyer’s market, and £100m deals are going to be very rare and unusual.

“It’s going to be a very quiet window at that sort of level, whereas two or three years ago there were five or six of those deals.

“So I think it will be difficult to achieve a £100m buyout.

“He’s quality, and he’s worth it – but I just can’t see there being a queue of clubs given the worry about PSR breaches coming up.”
