Keith Wyness drops ‘big’ Chelsea claim as new arrival confirmed

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness believes Todd Kline has a “big” chance to tap into the Chelsea owners’ network of investors after being confirmed as the club’s new president of commercial.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed Kline could also have great contacts following his work at Tottenham.

Kline started work at Stamford Bridge on 11 November as he looks to improve the London giants’ commercial revenue.

He was placed on gardening leave earlier this year by Spurs after agreeing to join Chelsea.

His arrival comes at a time when Enzo Maresca’s side still don’t have a front-of-shirt sponsorship deal in place after their £40million agreement with Infinite Athlete expired over the summer.

Chelsea chief could have ‘great contacts’ after making move

Wyness insisted it’s all about their black book and vision to find new markets when it comes to commercial directors.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t know Todd, I have never met him.

“But all these guys who are commercial directors, it’s all about their black book and also their vision of how to find new markets, whether it’s new technology with AI companies or cryptocurrency.

“If he’s got great contacts, then of course he can help Chelsea.

“You would hope he’s close enough now to the Clearlake guys, the owners, that they can also tap into their own network of investors and companies they have invested in.

“He has got a big chance to try and do that.”
