Keith Wyness drops Fabian Hurzeler sack verdict as ‘internal issue’ emerges at Brighton
Brighton are expected to stick with manager Fabian Hurzeler despite their recent poor run of form at the Amex Stadium.
That is according to former Everton, Aston Villa and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, who exclusively told Football Insider Brighton are facing “other internal issues” at this moment in time.
The Seagulls suffered a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa on Wednesday (11 February), with a late Jack Hinshelwood own goal proving to be the difference between the two sides.
However, Brighton have now gone six Premier League games without securing a victory, piling the pressure on Hurzeler.
The south-coast club have slipped to 14th in the top-flight table, but they are still seven points above the relegation zone after 26 matches.
How Brighton will approach ‘pulling the trigger’ on Fabian Hurzeler
Hurzeler led Brighton to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season, having arrived from St Pauli in the summer of 2024.
However, the Seagulls’ form will need to dramatically improve over the coming weeks if they are to reach similar heights this season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Brighton are unlikely to “pull the trigger” on Hurzeler despite their recent results.
“In terms of Hurzeler, I don’t think Brighton are a team that will actually pull the trigger,” said Wyness.
“I think they knew when they took him in he was a really young age for a manager, as we’ve all noticed, and that they were building something for the future.

“I’m afraid this is part of the experience and I think it would be wrong for them to make that move just now.”
Why Brighton could decide to sack Hurzeler
Wyness revealed Brighton will be assessing whether Hurzeler is the “problem” behind their recent dip in form.
“I think there are probably some other internal issues, they haven’t got everything right,” said Wyness.
“They’ll know what’s happening right now, they’ll have done a full analysis on him and is he the problem?

“If he is, then possibly there could be a change, but at the moment, I’m tending to think that Brighton are investing in him and will see that this is a learning curve they’re prepared to stick with him through and keep him going.”
Brighton’s next fixture sees them take on Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Anfield on Saturday (14 February).
