Keith Wyness drops ‘massive-money’ verdict as Man City plot January deals
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Man City won’t spend “massive money” in January despite their recent collapse.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted he expects Pep Guardiola’s side to add one or two new players in the new year.
City are winless in their last seven games across all competitions after losing 2-0 away at Liverpool on Sunday (1 December).
The defending Premier League champions now sit fifth in the table and are some 11 points adrift of the runaway Reds.
Ballon d’Or winner Rodri has proved a huge miss for Guardiola’s side following his knee injury, while Kevin de Bruyne is yet to return to full fitness after time out.
Man City to make ‘one or two’ January signings, says Wyness
Wyness suggested just “one win” could turn the tide for City, who will be plotting their January business.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’ve thought about it, and I don’t think they will spend massive money.
“They’ll probably prove me wrong.
“But there have just been injuries, some of those players are coming back now. I think Pep can turn this around.
“Maybe one signing will come in, two maximum. I don’t see them being real headline-grabbers in January.
“It’s a difficult window to do business in.

“The clubs won’t let the top players go, so it’s going to be more about trying to get this squad turned around.
“It’s surprising how one win can turn things around. Pep has got to take the success with the defeat.”
