Keith Wyness drops verdict on Aston Villa agreeing Tammy Abraham deal

Aston Villa would benefit from the addition of Tammy Abraham and should look to agree a deal for the striker.

That is according to ex-Aston Villa, Everton, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who has backed Abraham to be a success if he returns to the Premier League.

Roma plan to let Abraham leave on a permanent deal in January, with the 28-year-old currently on loan at Besiktas, which includes an option to buy at around £11million.

The 28-year-old had a loan spell previously at Aston Villa during the 2018-19 season when the striker was at Chelsea.

Keith Wyness ‘surprised’ at Tammy Abraham price

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Abraham would be a “great addition” to Unai Emery’s team.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Aston Villa need to consider signing Abraham in January.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, he’s been at Villa before. He was there on loan. Just after I left Villa, he came in and did a great stint and was well liked.

“He likes Villa, and of course, I think Abraham’s a very talented player, very hard to mark, very hard to handle. He’s a handful. He’s a mixture between, I always thought, between Lukaku and Peter Crouch in a funny way. And he is definitely a handful.

“And I’m surprised at the price he’s going for right now. I think it could be something that Villa could look at. But I think because of his past experience at Villa, and I know he enjoyed his time there, and I think Emery would be an excellent manager for him.

Certainly the service he’s going to be getting from the team should definitely make Tommy Abraham be thinking about going to Villa because that would make sense, and I think he can do a good job for them.

“You’re right, Ollie Watkins is there, coming back scoring goals again, but I think Tommy Abraham would be a great addition to the Villa squad and help them push on to a strong end of the season.”

Tottenham beat Aston Villa to January signing

Aston Villa were pushing to sign Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid, but Tottenham looked to have beaten them to the 25-year-old’s signature.

Gallagher is expected to join Spurs in a £35million deal, meaning Emery will now have to look at alternative targets.

Meanwhile, Harvey Elliott’s loan spell at Aston Villa from Liverpool is expected to be terminated, in what could be the major departure at the club in January.
