Keith Wyness drops verdict on Celtic agreeing David Datro Fofana deal
Celtic could pull off a late deal to sign Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana to solve their issues in attack.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who sees Fofana as an “option” for Celtic in the January window.
Celtic are considering a permanent offer for Fofana, with Chelsea willing to let the 23-year-old leave Stamford Bridge.
Fofana has spent the first half of the season on loan at Turkish club Fatih Karagumruk, scoring eight goals in 15 appearances.
David Datro Fofana not what Celtic are looking for
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks any move for Fofana would be a “last minute one.”
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness can’t see Fofana being the solution to Celtic’s problems.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “He’s one of the options. Again, it’s a great shop window for him if he can do it. But Celtic, I don’t know, they do need something up front.
“They haven’t got it right yet. And I don’t know if he really is the answer. I’ve been looking at some of his tapes and talking to some people, and he certainly has got glimmers of talent, but I think you need a bit more robustness for the Scottish league, he’ll be an option, but I don’t see him as being the answer is what I would see.
“So I could see him adding to the squad, but I don’t think he’s what they’re looking for and I think Martin has got other ideas as to the sort of type of player he wants to play in his formation. So we’ll see if he can get a more robust, consistent striker that Martin is looking for. So I think he’s an option but he’ll be a last-minute one.”

Celtic agree deal for new striker
Borussia Monchengladbach striker Tomas Cvancara has agreed to join Celtic on loan until the end of the season.
The 25-year-old may not be the only addition up-front for Celtic, with Martin O’Neill previously hinting at more than one signing in attack.
Hibernian striker Kieron Bowie could also be pursued by Celtic, with competition from rivals Rangers, in a deal which could cost up to £6.5million.
