Keith Wyness drops verdict on Celtic agreeing Kyogo Furuhashi deal
Martin O’Neill will not revert to re-signing former players at Celtic during the January transfer window.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid Kyogo Furuhashi being linked with a Celtic return.
Celtic are targeting a new striker, and Kyogo enjoyed a successful spell at the club between 2021 and 2025.
The 30-year-old has only netted twice for Birmingham City this season, but the Championship club have no intentions of selling the Japan international.
Kyogo Furuhashi not returning to Celtic
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – can’t foresee Kyogo coming back to Celtic for a second spell.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes interim manager O’Neill will want “to put his own stamp on the squad.“
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think he is coming back.
“I saw he scored again for Birmingham at the weekend, but no, I don’t think he’ll come back. I think too much water has gone under the bridge.
“I think Martin said, a wily old fox, he wants to put his own stamp on the squad. I don’t think he wants the returns. I think he’s happy with what he’s got going.
“It’s fascinating to see how Celtic play their cards, but I don’t think coming back for some of the ex-players is going to be the right way forward. I think Martin’s strong enough to get something fresher and better and move forward.”

Celtic in race for Hibernian star
Celtic could turn their attentions to Hibernian striker Kieron Bowie in an attempt to bolster their strike force.
Rangers could also target Bowie, with the 23-year-old having netted eight times and registered three assists in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Bowie could cost up to £6.5million, but his goalscoring ability could prove the difference in the Scottish Premiership title race.
