Keith Wyness drops verdict on Man City joining European Super League
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Man City will be “quiet” on a potential European Super League comeback until their Premier League financial charges case is resolved.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the English champions will not give any clubs a reason to “point the finger at them” any further.
According to World Soccer Talk (12 December), Real Madrid are “quietly orchestrating” a European Super League comeback with backing from Barcelona and Juventus.
Plans were revealed 12 months ago by organisers A22 to show potential Super League games free of charge around the world.
Man City – along with Man United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea – were part of the original proposal in 2021 which was thwarted by fans.
But City have since been embroiled in a financial charges fight with the Premier League which could see them hit with severe punishments if found guilty.
Man City will keep ‘quiet’ on European Super League, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The sanctions put in place by the Premier League after the Super League venture included a fine as well as a 30-point deduction for any club who try it again.
“I’d imagine City are just sitting quietly at the moment.
“They’ve got enough on their plate right now that they’re not going to give anyone the opportunity to point the finger at them.
“That’s the reason there’s no movement.

“It’s in everyone’s best interest to be quiet about this right now while the 115 charges case is ongoing.
“That’s probably why it’s gone quiet.”
