Keith Wyness reveals FA response to Sir Jim Ratcliffe controversy

The FA should not be getting involved in the controversy surrounding recent comments by Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who states that Ratcliffe may only receive a letter for his “colonised by immigrants” comments.

The FA are looking at whether Ratcliffe has brought the game into disrepute following the comments made in an interview with Sky News.

Man United released a statement on the matter whilst Ratcliffe later apologised for his “choice of language.”

FA must ‘stick to football’ amid Sir Jim Ratcliffe comments

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has criticised the FA for getting involved in the matter.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has slammed the FA for being a “very poor organisation.”

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think they’ve got to stick to football and not get involved in issues like this. Now one option they’ve got is that they may do something, they may ignore it, or they may just decide to say send him one of the famous letters which I’ve had in the past about governing yourself accordingly, and then you could put that in the bin.

“Maybe that’s as far as they’ll go, because I think it’s dangerous for them to even get involved. The FA is, to me, a very poor organisation in terms of the way it handles some of these issues and I think this is another mistake.

“So I think there are black marks both for Ratcliffe in terms of comparing this to his Man United strategy and the FA for getting involved. As you can tell, I feel pretty strongly about both.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe faces further Man United problem

Ratcliffe is also facing commercial issues at Man United, and it was revealed that the owner has prevented staff offering sweeteners to keep club sponsors happy.

Man United remain without a training kit and shirt sleeve sponsor, with the club struggling to maintain relationship with sponsors due to staff cutbacks.

Concerns have been raised about the club’s commercial performance, with their commercial income expected to drop this season.
