Keith Wyness reveals what he’s ‘hearing’ about Edu Gaspar ‘leaving’ Nottingham Forest

Edu Gaspar could leave Nottingham Forest before the end of the season amid a potential clash with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who states that Edu may have been “marginalised around recent managerial decisions.”

Following a spell as Arsenal‘s sporting director, Edu joined Nottingham Forest as their global head of football in July 2025.

Nottingham Forest have recently appointed Vitor Pereira as their fourth manager of the season, whilst Edu’s relationship with Nuno Espirito Santo may have led to his departure earlier in the campaign.

Edu tipped to leave Nottingham Forest

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes there is a “personality conflict” between Edu and Marinakis.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Edu’s appointment at the club has “not worked out.”

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think he may well leave. From all I’m hearing, he was marginalised a lot about the recent managerial decisions and I’m afraid your director of football has got to be right in the middle of that sort of decision.

“I always felt there was a bit of a personality conflict there between him and Marinakis in the sense that Marinakis is volatile and we understand he’s a real, you know, wants to win at all costs in many ways. Edu is much more laid back.

“Much more, I wouldn’t say calypso-type football, but he certainly is more of a character that understands the rhythm, the samba football, if you like, and a lot more laid back and perhaps didn’t show the fire and the aggression that Marinakis expects from his whole group.

“So there may have been a bit of a personality conflict there. I don’t know, but I do think that it’s not looking great for Edu right now, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him be gone before the end of the season to allow somebody new to start making the plans for next year, because it hasn’t worked out, I don’t think, in terms of the marriage between Marinakis and Edu.”

Nottingham Forest make Igor Jesus decision

Igor Jesus’ future at Nottingham Forest is also in doubt, with the striker having only scored twice in the Premier League this season.

Nottingham Forest may sanction the striker’s departure in the summer after just one season at the City Ground due to his Premier League form.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move back to his native Brazil, with Flamengo having registered their interest in agreeing a deal.
