Keith Wyness reveals when Everton could learn new points deduction fate
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed he has been told it could be February before the club learn whether they face a third points deduction for breaking spending rules.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the delay could be down to the Premier League being “tied up” with Man City’s 115 charges case.
Everton were docked eight points last season after being charged by the Premier League for two separate spending breaches under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The independent commission that oversaw the second case postponed an argument over the capitalisation of stadium interest payments after ruling it was too complex to be heard at the time.
According to the Liverpool Echo (20 November), the matter is yet to be resolved with Everton in limbo over a potential third points deduction.
Everton could learn points deduction fate in February, says Wyness
Wyness insisted the Toffees remain “very bullish” about avoiding further punishment.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I had hoped this would be resolved by now.
“It’s an indication of just how tied up the Premier League is with the Man City case. It could come down to resources.
“I’ve now been told that February is the time we should be looking out for this.
“Hopefully that is well after the Friedkin takeover is cleared. This will have been part of their due diligence, so they’ll have a view on the case.

“Everton are still very bullish about there being nothing to see here, it’s just an issue with accounting and auditing.
“Let’s wait and see. February does seem to be late, but there is a lot of legal work going on in the Premier League right now.”
