Keith Wyness reveals Everton have new ‘ray of hope’ for second points deduction
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness expects the Toffees to receive a suspended points deduction when their second PSR charge is concluded.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – argued that Everton could avoid a second deduction this season.
The Toffees were successful in their appeal this month with their initial 10-point deduction reduced to six.
However, the Merseyside club will now prepare for their second hearing after they were charged again for a breach in their 2022-23 accounts.
As revealed by Football Insider, Everton expect to be handed a six-point deduction in their second hearing, taking the total punishment to 12 points this season.
Everton could be spared a second points deduction in shock twist
However, Wyness explained that the second charge will be heard by an entirely new independent panel and therefore there is “hope” that they could suspend the punishment until next season.
“It will be a completely new panel,” Wyness told Football Insider.
“The interesting thing is that they may take into account things like double jeopardy, things like the mitigating circumstances, and come to a different conclusion than the first panel.
“So that’s one ray of hope for Everton.
“That’s where I believe it may end up.

“I’m expecting a points deduction again, but suspended.
“And Everton could potentially argue, of course, that double jeopardy punished them twice.“
