Keith Wyness shares new Everton CEO update as 34-year-old linked
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Ryan Friedkin is unlikely to become the Merseysiders’ new CEO.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the 34-year-old will be involved at board level, but someone with more knowledge of the Premier League and Toffees is needed for the crucial role.
Ryan – the son of US billionaire and new Everton owner Dan Friedkin – has been linked with the vacant CEO role at the club.
He has taken a hands-on role with Italian club Roma and is president at French fourth division side AS Cannes.
Colin Chong currently holds the CEO role at Goodison on an interim basis following the departure of Denise Barrett-Baxendale in June 2023.
Ryan Friedkin unlikely to get Everton CEO role, says Wyness
Wyness suggested Ryan Friedkin could take an overview role at the head of The Friedkin Group (TFG), who now own three clubs across Europe.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It had been thought that Ryan could come and have a senior role at Everton initially.
“But he seems to have a big role at Roma and everyone forgets that they also have Cannes, in the French fourth division.
“He’s been very busy there.
“I think he’ll take more of a group overview role, rather than focusing directly on Everton.

“There’s no doubt he’ll be involved at board level.
“But I don’t think it will be in the CEO position. They’ll be looking for someone with more experience in football, the Premier League – and also with more knowledge of Everton as well.”
