Keith Wyness shares verdict on Leicester selling top players in January
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he expects Leicester City to avoid selling their best players in January even if they risk a potential points deduction.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Foxes will have to “accept any potential punishment” which comes.
Leicester were charged by the Premier League with a breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the 2022-23 but have escaped punishment as things stand after taking advantage of a loophole in the regulations.
However, the Foxes still have to submit their accounts for last season (2023-24) this month – while figures for this season will also come under scrutiny if they remain a top-flight club.
Their financial situation will also be affected by the decision to sack Steve Cooper just months into a three-year contract and hire Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Leicester lost £129.4million in a three-year period up to 2023, almost £25million over the allowed figure.
Leicester tipped to avoid January sales – Wyness
However, Wyness insisted the Midlands club will resist attempting to mitigate any new losses by selling players in January.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think they’ll say no, we’re not selling any of our best players.
“They won’t worry about PSR now. They may well say: ‘If we breach it, we’ll take the penalty on the chin next year.’

“By which time, they may have strengthened further.
“I think they’ll not sell and just accept any potential punishment which may come further down the road.”
