Kenny Burns: This man is the perfect fit for Nottingham Forest top job
By Matt Farr
Nottingham Forest legend Kenny Burns believes that Mark Warburton would be an excellent choice to fill the managerial hotseat at the City Ground.
The Championship club have handed Gary Brazil responsibility over all first-team affairs until the end of the season, but they are likely to pursue a more long-term solution in the summer.
Talking in the Scottish Sun, Burns – who won seven trophies with Nottingham Forest during their late-1970’s dominance – insists that the club should look no further than recently available boss, Warburton.
The ex-Rangers chief was dismissed from his post at Ibrox on Friday, after a miserable start to the season that left them a whopping 27 points adrift of rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
Warburton was believed to have been in contact with Nottingham Forest over the managerial vacancy prior to Brazil’s appointment.
Yet despite his controversial departure from Rangers last week, Burns stated that Warburton would be a ‘good choice’ for the club.
He told the Scottish Sun: “Mark Warburton would be a good choice for Forest if he’s still out of work come the end of the season, because I’m sure there will be a few clubs after him now he’s left Rangers.
“Who knows what happened, but the fact is that Warburton is available and if Fawaz [Al-Hasawi] ultimately chooses to go for someone who knows the Championship and who has a decent track record, Warburton would be a good choice.
“Just look at what he did at Brentford. He did really well there, he had Brentford right up there in the Championship.”
After leading Brentford into the Championship ahead of the 2014-15 season, Warburton turned the club into a considerable force.
During their first season in the second-tier, Brentford finished fifth, earning their right to fight for promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
They were beaten comfortably by Middlesbrough, but it took little away from Warburton’s leadership of the side that season.
Brentford have remained in the Championship ever since, and currently sit one point above Nottingham Forest after 30 games this season.
