Kenny Burns: Nottingham Forest should sign this Celtic player immediately
By Danny Wright
Former Nottingham Forest player Kenny Burns believes that Gary Brazil should bring Celtic’s Dorus De Vries back to the City Ground after Stephen Henderson’s season-ending injury left him with just one fit goalkeeper at the club.
Jordan Smith is the only fit option for Brazil after Henderson injured his Achilles tendon in Saturday’s defeat to Norwich.
Burns, who made 20 international appearances for Scotland, said to the Scottish Sun that Forest should try and bring De Vries back to the City Ground after he left for Glasgow at the beginning of the season.
“If I was Gary, I would try to bring Dorus de Vries back, if they can make an emergency loan signing.
“It might be a long shot, trying to get him back, but it’s got to be worth a try.
“I don’t think they should have let him go in the first place because he was outstanding last season. He might be up for it, he’s not playing at Celtic,” Burns said.
De Vries has only made 6 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions this season and is clearly considered back up to Craig Gordon by Brendan Rodgers.
The former Wolves and Swansea keeper made his Champions League debut for Celtic in September. In one way it was a game to remember against Barcelona at the Nou Camp, but in another it would be a game to forget having conceded seven goals.
Brazil has managed to keep Nottingham Forest afloat after Philippe Montanier was sacked in January but news of a season-ending injury to his first-choice goalkeeper is certain to throw a spanner in the works.
Forest can exercise an emergency loan to replace the Irish shot-stopper who has made 15 appearances in all competitions for the club this season.
Football Insider Verdict
Burns is definitely right about Forest finding a back-up. Their season has been poor and in order to stop things from going from bad to worse, Brazil has to act quickly in order to replace Henderson as without a good goalkeeper they could see themselves slipping closer to the relegation zone with every game.
De Vries may have his reasons for leaving Forest in the summer, but if he wants to get game time then a loan move away from Celtic may be needed.
The Dutch keeper may prefer to stay there though as part of a squad that are winning every game and look to have already won the Scottish Premiership.
